The commissioned piece is unique and designed with extensive consultation with the client. All materials to be used in its construction are agreed during consultation and are then sourced and procured where they occur in Southern Africa. Pieces are constructed primarily from African hardwoods, selected not only for their strength and durability, but also for the four most important features: colour, grain, lustre and figure. The materials undergo detailed laboratory evalutations, models are tested and the final finishes of the completed piece are applied under studio conditions. Mdoni Tree A businessman in KwaZulu-Natal and his young daughter spent many happy hours under this mature Mdoni tree on their riversisde property. When severe floods uprooted the tree, the timber from the tree was used to create a double pedestal partners' desk for his study.
Sneezewood Tree and the Ibis Nestlings The Glossy Ibis used a Sneezewood tree to nest in. The nest was close to the bedroom window of the homeowner's daughter and coincidently, the nestlings hatched on her birthday every year. After the Ibis parents eventually abandoned the nest, and the teenager travelled overseas to University, wood from the Sneezewood tree was used to create a writing bureau. The bureau was shipped overseas so that the homeowner's daughter could have a tangible reminder of home whilst studying.
